4.05 revulsion

Voyager picks up a distress call from a hologram alone on a ship; the human crew died of a virus, he says. But his own actions show a distinct dislike of ‘organics’, bordering on hatred. Torres and the doctor beam over. Torres repairs his malfunctioning program and starts to work on investigating the situation, suspicious after facing a psychotic rage by the hologram. In a forbidden area of the ship, she finds the bodies of the murdered crewmen, and she is attacked by the hologram. She manages to shut his program just in time, but he finds a way to return. He steals the doctor’s holo-emitter and almost kills Torres again, but she wins the fight and destroys him. This is a clever episode. I love the scene where Torres believes that she has shut down all the holo-emitters on the ship, believing it to be safe from the hologram. The doctor suggests that she double-check as he is looking at the hologram’s pet holo-fish, and, as he looks, we hear a loud ‘thump’, and the scene widens to reveal the hologram holding a hammer over the prone body of Torres. I also liked the fight between the doctor and the hologram, which each swinging at – and through – each other. "This could get tedious," says the doc. Then the hologram swings again – and he hits the holo-emitter, shutting the doctor off.

In the meantime, there are two other sub-plots: Paris and Torres and their burgeoning romance (they have a long on-screen kiss), and Harry Kim’s crush on Seven of Nine. He even invites her back to his place and lowers the lights, and, when she finally realizes that he is attempting to mate she says this great line: "I have seen the way your pupils dilate when you look at my body."

The episode also starts with a cleverly crafted scene of Tuvok getting a promotion to Lieutenant Commander and being roasted in the process, which flows into several interactions between crewmembers.
