4.10 random thoughts

The crew of Voyager could do with a little shore leave. This time, it's on a planet of pleasant, smiling telepaths, where there is no violence. Janeway and Chakotay have pleasant negotiations over parts, while Neelix falls head over heels for a voluptuous young woman. Suddenly, after Torres is bumped into by a local, a brutal attack occurs. The local female constabulary, whom Tuvok has bonded with, investigates and finds that Torres' violent thought was transmitted, making her culpable. The penalty is a mind cleansing that has the risk of leaving her as a vegetable. Tuvok investigates further and find that her thought was extracted purposefully by an unknown, underground ring of people that deal in violent thoughts. This culture has outlawed violent thought, which has just forced it into back alleys.

Nit: Why, once again, are we visiting another society that lives in small towns with town squares and no mechanized means of transport? I know, it must be budget issues, but it is getting repetitive. And why does the female constable seem to not only be the constable, but also the judge, jury, local politician, and doctor? She seems to be in charge of everything. I know, I know, it must be budget issues. Sloppy Nit: Near the beginning of the episode, when Neelix tells his female acquaintance that "I think I could rearrange my schedule", watch as a big spit flies out of his mouth! This is the first time I have ever seen someone do this on TV. Or maybe it was supposed to happen because she had just agreed to stroke his whiskers as soon as she got off work.
