5.07 infinite regress

The debris from a Borg ship holds a ‘viculum’, the central core that normally creates order from chaos, channelling the Borg thoughts and sending out commands. But when another alien race, decimated by Borg assimilations, infects the Borg ship with a virus, causing it to self-destruct, the viculum, which drifts in the debris and is still active, begins to send out errant commands, which are picked up by Seven. She develops multiple personalities, formed from the many species that she assimilated. They threaten to destroy her mind unless the viculum can be destroyed first. To complicate matters, when the species that destroyed the Borg ship is contacted, they want the viculum, which has been beamed aboard Voyager, to be placed back in the debris field, so that the virus with which they infected it can infect other Borg cubes. As they fire on Voyager and B’Elanna works on disabling the viculum, Tuvok performs a dangerous mind meld with Seven and finds himself in a chaotic dream state, hounded by screaming assimilation victims. As he fights to reach her, B’Elanna disables the viculum, Janeway beams it into space, and Seven returns to normal.

This is a great opportunity for Jeri Ryan (Seven) to expand her acting repertoire as a Klingon, a teenage girl and many other characters, and she’s excellent.
