Janeway is in the middle of helping a holographic da Vinci to build a flying machine when Voyager is attacked by ships that strategically cut through the shields and steal technology – and the computer core. "I feel like I’ve been mugged," says Paris. Janeway tracks down the culprits to a planet where she also finds da Vinci – he was part of the computer – and he’s been fitted with the doctor’s missing holo-emitter. His benefactor is an alien who steals and deals, and Janeway, with help from da Vinci, conspires to buy the computer core back, planning to beam it up, along with herself, when she gets close enough to activate it. The plan backfires, causing her and da Vinci to escape, using the flying machine that he finally succeeded in building –and in mid-flight they are beamed up.
A good episode, with nice work by John Rhys-Davies as da Vinci. Nit: Yes, the alien planet has another town and town square with no mechanized transport…you know the drill.
