4.01 scorpion (part 2)

Janeway and Tuvok begin work on a nanoprobe weapon, but they first must refuse to work with implants. Instead, they ask for a single representative to whom they can speak. They are given Seven of Nine, a Borg who was formerly a human female. While working on the weapon, Species 8472 attacks, and Janeway is severely hurt. She, Tuvok, and a few Borg are beamed into cargo bay 2 just before the cube is destroyed. The Borg quickly take over the cargo bay, building a lab and a number of alcoves for regeneration. Chakotay seals off the bay and the rest of the deck to ensure they do not attempt to take over the ship. Despite Janeways’s deathbed wish to continue the alliance, Chakotay gets suspicious when Seven of Nine admits that the Borg invaded 8472’s domain and attacked them first. When Seven is told by the hive that they are losing the war, she plunges Voyager into ‘the domain of Species 8472’, to force Voyager to use the weapon. Janeway recovers in time to continue the plan that Chakotay would have stopped – and she confines him to the brig. The plans works, and, when Species 8472 begins to retreat, Seven receives orders to dissolve the alliance and assimilate the ship – at which point Chakotay, who is not in the brig but instead has been saved for this moment, uses an implant to distract Seven long enough for Torres to zap her. Voyager cuts Seven off from the hive, and, as she begins to return to human form, Janeway expresses her intent to keep her on board and take responsibility for her.
