Janeway is convinced that Seven of Nine, the Borg who was assimilated into the collective when she was a little girl, should be allowed to return to her human form, despite Seven’s own objections. Janeway allows Seven to help to rid Voyager of Borg technology, but Seven takes the opportunity to attempt to send a message to the collective. Kes uses her rapidly growing and out-of-control powers to thwart the attempt. Soon, it becomes obvious that Seven must stay and Kes, whose powers are compromising the ship’s structural integrity, must leave. Kes leaves on a shuttlecraft just before she reaches another plane of existence; as a parting gift she propels Voyager out of Borg space, ten years closer to home.
In the final scene, Seven says, "Red", and then elaborates that red was the little girl’s (her) favorite color.
Great lines: the doctor and Tuvok trade insults regarding each other’s opinions about their areas of expertise.
