3.21 before and after

Kes is on her deathbed, with no memory of the preceding years; at age 9 she has reached the end of her short life (which is natural for an Ocampa). In a few seconds, she disappears and reappears a few years earlier, still with no memories of the chronological past; all she can remember is her brief appearance on her deathbed. She continues to briefly pop into her life, a life that she cannot remember living, a timeline where B’Elanna and Janeway were killed in something the crew call ‘The Year of Hell’, where she consoled Tom Paris after B’Elanna’s death, they married, and she had a daughter (who married Harry Kim and had a son). Working backward in time, she realizes that her exposure to radiation and subsequent treatment by the doctor has caused her to skip backward. Back in our present, she is able to both put the pieces together and convince others that she is not senile or dreaming, and the doctor finds a treatment that locks her back into the present, unfortunately with her new big and long New Hampshire hairstyle, but fortunately always wearing a body suit. This clever concept is weakened somewhat by the ‘old person’ makeup effects used in the early sequences.
